About Snoh Aalegra
Snoh Aalegra is a singer and songwriter who has termed her work "cinematic soul." Since scoring a couple of pop hits in her native Sweden (as Sheri), the artist has recorded R&B-rooted material inspired by the likes of Nina Simone, Lauryn Hill, and mentor Prince, including two albums, Feels (2017) and the Billboard 200-charting Ugh, Those Feels Again (2019).
Born Sheri Nowrozi in Uppsala, Aalegra entered the music industry at the age of 13, when the Swedish wing of Sony Music signed her to a development deal. She didn't make her recorded debut until roughly a decade later as a Mamia Music signee. Going by Sheri, her singles "Hit and Run" and "U Got Me Good" peaked respectively at number 12 and two on the Swedish national pop chart. Despite the success, she changed direction as a progressive R&B artist mixing throwback and modern elements. Having caught the attention of producer No I.D., who added her to the ARTium Recordings family, Aalegra appeared in 2014 on Common's ARTium/Def Jam album Nobody's Smiling, then released her debut, the There Will Be Sunshine EP, through major-label Epic. On the highlight "Bad Things," Common returned Aalegra's earlier favor with a guest verse. During the first half of the following year, Aalegra released the RZA-produced "Emotional" and appeared on Vince Staples' "Jump Off the Roof." The mini-album Don't Explain followed in 2016 and built anticipation for the 2017 release of the full-length Feels, featuring contributions from Staples, Vic Mensa, and Logic. A handful of singles, most prominently "I Want You Around" -- Aalegra's first single to hit Billboard's Adult R&B Songs chart -- led to the 2019 LP Ugh, Those Feels Again. The album, issued with support from Kobalt's AWAL division, entered the Billboard 200 at number 73. ~ Andy Kellman
