On the duo's debut album, guitarist Brian Oblivion and singer Madeline Follin expose the dark side of sunny girl-group pop with prickly love laments that glisten underneath a heavy haze. Follin's sassy wails get dipped in layers of woozy reverb and jangly guitar, all built upon scrappy lo-fi drums. Touches of glockenspiel on "Abducted" and "Go Outside" make it all sparkle, while the surf guitar shivering through "Most Wanted" and the bubbly groove of "Never Heal Myself" evoke the bittersweet romance of Best Coast.
