Since the early ‘90s, producer and DJ Richie Hawtin has carried the torch for techno, with his Plastikman guise helping to set the bar for the style's minimalist incarnation. Hawtin grew up outside of Windsor, Ontario, just over the border from Detroit, and though his music is always expansive, hypnotic and forward-thinking, it often echoes the essential spirit of early Detroit techno. His remixes, DJ sets and site-specific audio creations always showcase his artistic integrity, as someone who has the original ethos of techno in his bones and is immune to the genre's fickle and ever-changing trends.
