Juicy J Essentials

Juicy J's distinctive Southern sound has influenced a generation of hip-hop. His group Three 6 Mafia crossed over in the ‘90s with gothic, minor-key, horn-powered bangers driven by heavy, trunk-rattling 808s, as on the menacing "Who Run It". Subsequent records—both with the group and solo—broadened his repertoire: "Stay Fly" is a bright firecracker of '70s soul, a psychedelic head rush that can kill the car park as readily as the more ominous hits. Juicy J's 2012 solo hit "Bandz a Make Her Dance" modernises old formulas with its craggy, slow-rolling production and bleak, urgent atmosphere.
