Inspired by rap stars like 50 Cent and Gucci Mane, Big Baby Tape knew rap was in his future by the age of six. Sure enough, 11 years later he released his first mixtape, Cookin’ Anthem. Treating those early influences like a second skin, BBT peppers his mostly Russian-language tracks with American slang and nods to pop culture. These are set with fizzy autotune vocals and bouncing synths—all coming together to create a modern sound that also pays respect to the old-school masters.
