About Sanam

Taking in classic covers as well as their own fully fledged pop-rock, SANAM are a key part of a new generation of bands with a fondness for traditional sounds that are dominating streaming and viral video. • They were formed as The SQS Project in 2010 by Keshav Dhanraj and brothers Sanam and Samar Puri who came together for TV talent show Times Music Supastars, with childhood friend and bassist Venky S joining for their victorious final. • While SQS Supastars—the band’s debut album of the same year—was a nod to their televised success, they began gaining far more traction online as SANAM, uploading video covers of classic Bollywood tracks like “Gulabi Aankhen”, which racked up hundreds of millions of views. • Lead singer Sanam Puri’s talent for bringing the Bollywood canon back to life led him to work on songs for films such as Punit Malhotra’s Gori Tere Pyaar Mein. • From 2012, the group began writing their own material—harmonious and often grand pop-rock—though their #SANAMRENDITION covers still trend regularly online among their fanbase. • The quartet have won praise not just for their music but also their social media presence: they were recognised as Best Music Content Creators at the inaugural Social Media Summit & Awards in 2017. • The group have also performed for humanitarian causes, such as the Pledge Tour, which partnered with NGO Justice & Hope to raise awareness of child abuse in India.
