With the release of their 2003 debut album, Unhallowed, melodic death metal outfit The Black Dahlia Murder embarked on a high-speed journey to the top. The Detroit-area band built their vicious sound around frenetic drum blasts and the banshee vocals and guttural growls of Trevor Strnad, who died in May 2022 at the age of 41. Their lyrics, like their name suggests, cover a range of dark themes. By the time they released 2013's masterful Everblack, The Black Dahlia Murder had cemented their place as one of the world's most popular extreme metal bands.
