Teresa Teng Essentials

Taiwanese singer Teresa Teng's career was cut short by her early death in 1995, yet her popularity and influence has lived on. The biggest star in Asian pop music, her crisp, sweet voice tinged with melancholy created an emotional depth hitherto unknown in folk songs and romantic ballads. Between the 1970s and the 1990s she recorded more than 1,000 songs in over six languages that include Japanese, Indonesian and English. She was loved by all of Asia, not just the Chinese-speaking regions, and her influence is still heard in the voices of Asia's current pop stars.
