Joi Chua had intended to become an optometrist, majoring in the subject at college. But her elder brother encouraged her to give music a try—and the rest is history. The Singaporean vocalist released her debut album Joi Tsai in 2000 and performed on the soundtracks to several Singaporean TV shows. It was Chua's 2003 release, Sunrise, that was to make the biggest impact on critics and fans, with its mix of bright and cheerful tracks, delivered in a worldly, womanly voice. She still happily moonlights as an eye doctor—this collection brings her greatest tracks into focus.
