Greta Van Fleet belong to a long line of Michigan bands renowned for blistering riff rock. This was plainly evident when “Highway Tune” stormed the charts in 2017, transforming them from a bunch of small-town kids barely out of school into superstars hanging with Elton John. GVF certainly have studied the swaggering heaviness of Led Zeppelin, and frontman Josh Kiszka’s scream possesses the banshee power of Robert Plant. Yet that’s just one well from which they draw. These dudes know their ’70s hard rock inside and out, and it shows just as much in their acoustic ballads and spacey epics as it does in their crunchy jams.
