’80s Japanese Idols Essentials

Cute manufactured starlets ruled Japan's pop scene in the 1980s via bright sing-along numbers and maudlin ballads about puppy love. Girl group Onyanko Club changed the game in the middle of the decade with "Sailor Fuku Wo Nugasanaide" ("Don't Make Me Take Off My Sailor Uniform"), as they discussed losing one's virginity to a bouncy '60s tune. As with much here, it's a particularly biting pop jam.
