About Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever

Soon after forming in 2013, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever came waltzing onto the indie-rock scene already sounding like a well-oiled unit. Part of that confidence came from learning how to juggle the ideas of three singer-songwriter-guitarists—cousins Fran Keaney and Joe White, along with friend Tom Russo. “While we do have a personal connection to ideas that we put in, everybody accepts that everything's up for grabs and everything's up to be moved around,” Keaney told Apple Music. This democratic approach has led to a distinctive sound and style—a breezy mix of jangle, wit, and a touch of punk, tied together with the nimble rhythms of bassist Joe Russo (Tom’s brother) and drummer Marcel Tussie. Since signing to Sub Pop in 2016, the quintet have continued to refine this aesthetic, spinning their triple-axe melodies into big, bright hooks on tracks such as 2017 fan fave “French Press” and glimmering guitar-pop albums, including 2020’s Sideways to New Italy and 2022’s Endless Rooms.
