About Lady J

Lady J was born and raised in Northern California and grew up surrounded by music. Everyone in her family played some form of musical instrument. Lady J participated in plays, the marching band, speech debates and talent shows throughout Southern California. In high school during her senior year, she attended the South Coast Repertory Acting Conservatory in Orange County California. After graduation, she attended UC Santa Barbara as an acting major for one year, then enrolled in the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Pasadena California. During that same period, Lady J attended a professional modeling school while also working on a number of photography and fashion assignments. Lady J has contributed some of her time to the Los Angeles Unified School District to help with their special after-school program, "L.A.'s Best," in South Central Los Angeles California. She has taught music, acting, and dance to underprivileged children. Lady J takes pride in writing alone or collaborates with talented co-writers and/or producers to come up with different genres and hybrids of commercial Pop music, which aids in keeping her on the cutting edge of her craft. Lady J's singing style has been described as a very commercial crossover pop, alternative rock with a touch of rhythm & blues thrown in for good measure. Lady J adds fresh, new textures in her singing style to more established commercial styles of music, and she works with a variety of producers, writers and musicians. Lady J's 1997 release Music for the Soul defines the time and relationships that we are all living in. Lady J's use of an eclectic bundle of melodies, ranging in nature from bouncy and light, rock, all the way to rap-prose of the spoken word display the depth contained in the CD. There is one very important constant in the CD, this is a highway of truth that comes driving through each number, plunging straight to the listener's soul. This is what is the true essence of Lady J. Lady J has performed at venues all over the Los Angeles area, including clubs such as the Roxy, the Crooked Bar, the Whiskey, Highland Grounds, and the Cinegrill. Lady J has also made personal singing appearances on L.A.'s Music Scene, Music of the 90's, and World Music, and she has released two dance singles in Europe entitled "Secret" and "Forever." In 2000, she had several songs playing in foreign release, including one on the soundtrack for A Stranger in the City. Lady J has acted in theater, film, video, and National commercials, and she has done print and MC work. Her talents also include playing keyboards and managing her own music publishing company. She is a member of NARAS, SAG, ATAS and AFTRA. Lady J has become one of the freshest, upcoming new stars steadily rising in the pop charts. Lady J is a performer that listeners will be a fan of for many years to come and will await diligently her next release. ~ Larry Belanger
