About Egg

Egg emerged from the same Canterbury-based progressive rock scene that produced the Soft Machine, Caravan, Gong, and a host of like-minded acts. Though Egg were among the least commercially successful of these groups, the two LPs they cut during their brief existence--1970’s EGG and 1971’s THE POLITE FORCE--remain beloved by prog aficionados for their adventurous yet always purposeful fusion of Miles Davis-derived modal jazz, British chamber pop, and American rock & roll. After disbanding in 1971, the group re-formed for a final album, 1974’s THE CIVIL SURFACE.
