About Dan Nicholls

Dan Nicholls is a U.K.-based pianist, composer, producer, sound designer, multi-instrumentalist, and educator. His music exists at the intersection of jazz, ambient electronica, vanguard classical music, and experimental abstraction, often employed in combinations. His compositions and strategized improvisational works explore the way music is perceived and experienced, while simultaneously challenging paradigms of Western musical education. An early member of London's Loop Collective, Nicholls has released a bevy of recordings including 2011's Mirror EP and his 2013 debut outing Ruins. He has been a member of Goldie's touring ensemble since 2014 and Squarepusher's since 2015. As a founding member of Strobes he released 2016's acclaimed Brokespeak, and as a member of the electro-improvisational jazz collective Gonimoblast, with vocalist Maja Ratkje and trumpeter Arve Henriksen, he released a self-titled live album in 2017. In 2021, Nicholls released his WeJazz debut, Mattering and Meaning.
