About Cobweb Strange

With a spooky, intense, and sometimes jazzy psychedelic rock sound, Cobweb Strange has been compared to everyone from the Doors to early Pink Floyd. Formed in Atlanta, the band, of which bassist Wade Summerlin has been the only constant member, has also been influenced by 1970s metal and progressive rock. Cobweb Strange was formed in 1995 by bassist Wade Summerlin, who found drummer Derik Rinehart and guitarist Jonathan Burke through placing ads in the newspaper. Later that year, the trio released the EP Thoughts Under Glass. After several months of touring, the group released their debut record, The Temptation of Successive Hours, in mid-1996. The record's "Astral Projection" became a radio hit in Poland. After the record, Burke left the band to attend college and was replaced by the drummer's brother, Keith Rinehart. In October 1998, the band's second album, Sounds From the Gathering, was released. Some cuts from the album received international airplay. All the members of the band then became involved in several side projects and did not immediately tour behind the release. With Derik Rinehart on tour with a blues band, and Keith Rinehart busy, Summerlin recruited guitarist Rusell Taylor and drummer Soumen Talukder to tour as Cobweb Strange. Summerlin and Soumen Talukder wrote material during the tour and later recorded an album with the band Electric Poem. The chemistry with that band's guitarist Holly Williams and keyboardist Brandi Byrum was so good that they were recruited as new members of Cobweb Strange, and the group began working on a new album. A few years would pass before the results would arrive, but 2002's A Breath of October unveiled the new lineup's first achievements. To emphasize their return, the band also released a collection made up of track from all three records. ~ Geoff Orens
