About Brian Setzer

Every decade has a retro craze spearheaded by a true believer who brings classic sounds back into vogue. Brian Setzer performed this trick twice: first with the Stray Cats, who brought rockabilly back to the charts during the '80s, and then helped popularize the swing revival with the Brian Setzer Orchestra. While the Stray Cats were purists following the examples of Eddie Cochran, Johnny Burnette, and Gene Vincent, Setzer's large band joined rockabilly guitar to jump blues, jazz, and space age pop, on 1995's Guitar Slinger, 2000's Vavoom!, and 2009's Songs from Lonely Avenue. His solo records continued to follow the rockabilly-blues trajectory. Among his best known recordings are 2001's Ignition, 2006's 13, and 2023's The Devil Always Collects. On the latter, Setzer released a combined set of originals and covers, including the Del Reeves' trucker's anthem, "Girl on the Billboard." Setzer co-produced the 11-song set with Julian Raymond.
