The Posies Essentials

The Posies Essentials

True to their name, The Posies were the flowers poking through the grim, hard, grungy foundation that underpinned their native Seattle's music scene in the early ‘90s. Led by the Lennon-McCartney dynamic of Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow, The Posies updated ‘60s-styled songcraft with an indie-rock-schooled command of discord on power-pop knockouts like “Dream All Day” and “Solar Sister.” But the fuzz would gradually dissipate: 1996's “Ontario” delivers its pithy sentiments atop a brisk, rootsy jangle; the harmony-rich hook of 2005's “I Guess You're Right” is couched in post-punk austerity and guitar-smeared atmospherics.
