FLVME is one of the titans of South Africa’s new wave of trap-fuelled hip hop. Inspired by artists like Lil Wayne, Da L.E.S and Travis Scott, FLVME (born Lesego Mnyandu in Katlehong, Johannesburg in 1999) dropped out of school in grade 11 to pursue music. After a short stint at Ambitiouz Records in 2016, FLVME became part of the short-lived collective The Wrecking Crew alongside A-Reece and B3nchMarQ. His debut EP Clouds (2017) and the follow-ups Do Not Disturb (with Zoocci Coke Dope) and Germander, marked his arrival as both a producer with an ear for catchy melodies and an effortlessly flowing MC. FLVME’s debut album CandyMan earned him the Best Newcomer and Best Male nods at the 2019 edition of the South African Hip-Hop Awards, further solidifying his position at the top of the game.
