About Annie Schultz

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I remember going to DIY house shows in Minneapolis throughout high school. Exposure to a DIY music community made me realize that I could play shows too and there was a space for me to be surrounded by people that liked music as much as I did. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Gary Numan, Tubeway Army, Replicas 1998 Remaster The Cure, Seventeen Seconds The Jesus and Mary Chain, Darklands I love the way that these albums infuse different conventions of post-punk and new wave into their songwriting and instrumentals that sound both familiar and innovative, and they have all been highly influential to my own work. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Boy Blue” Boy Blue was one of the first songs I ever wrote and recorded. I had a Rhodes at my house that I used to record the keyboard parts on this EP, and I especially like the way it turned out on this song. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? The first show I ever played was opening for Jeffrey Lewis in Olympia. I discovered his music around the time that I started writing my own songs and found it really inspirational, so it was really cool to share a bill with him. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I would really like to do a midwest tour with my band. I'm from Minnesota but I've never played a show there, so it would be really fulfilling to play my music back home with my bandmates that I met in Olympia.
