Following previous albums inspired by Purcell, Monteverdi and Cavalli, Christina Pluhar and her L’Arpeggiata lend Händel their unique treatment, fusing baroque manners with world music and jazz embellishments. It’s intoxicating stuff and Pluhar responds to the music’s invitations to elaborate with some fabulously imaginative ideas of her own, employing an acute feeling for rhythm and colour. L’Arpeggiata are joined by some of Pluhar’s regular partners—soprano Nuria Rial, countertenor Valer Sabadus and jazz clarinettist Gianluigi Trovesi – on this glorious exploration of Handel’s wild side.
