Toofan Essentials

Eccentric Togolese duo Toofan became a major presence in their native country around 2005, when their deeply rhythmic, French-language Afropop began hooking party-goers with its irrepressibly energetic hooks. That they inspired a march-and-dab dance move—the cool-catché—and made a splash in pockets of Europe comes as no surprise in light of their colourful, playful tones of West African pop that's infused with a healthy dose of Western hip-hop swagger. Hits like "Gweta”—which blasted out of their 2014 album Overdose—sound like Lil Jon easily conquering the African music scene.
