Central Cee Essentials

With smirking wit and an endlessly agile flow, London’s Central Cee is one of the most dominant forces in drill. Born Oakley Neil H.T Caesar-Su in Ladbroke Grove in 1998, he emerged with a standout appearance aged 14 on Charlie Sloth’s Fire in the Street series. After releasing multiple mixtapes in 2017, he crystallised his come-up with the release of 2021’s Wild Wild West, a showcase for flow versatility and inventive wordplay. The exhibition has only continued. For “Loading”, he laces skittering drill hi-hats and swerving saxophone with tightly wound rhyme schemes and dismissive putdowns for law enforcement. On 2022’s “Doja”, he made a classic Eve sample and a flirty turn of phrase into another career launchpad. When he hasn’t been operating solo, he’s delivered some of his best work alongside fellow MC Dave (“Sprinter”) while more than holding his own with Drake (“On the Radar Freestyle”)—a testament to the type of skill that makes superstars.
