The Ethiopians Essentials

Led by Leonard Dillon, this Jamaican vocal harmony group's career extends from the relatively carefree days of ska through reggae's hardcore late-‘70s Rastafarian heyday and beyond. The choo-choo shuffle of “Train to Skaville” and percussively pointed “The Whip” laid the groundwork for “Everything Crash”, which chronicled Jamaica's widespread strikes of 1968. Dillon later added Rastafarianism's African-influenced nyabinghi drums to “Slave Call” and “Ethiopian National Anthem”, proclaiming his faith with dignified chanting.
