Static-X Essentials

Static-X became a beacon of ‘90s nu-metal with thunderous riffs, throbbing electronic sequences and Wayne Static's towering vocals with hair to match. Static met drummer Ken Jay in Chicago, while the singer played in a band called Deep Blue Dream alongside The Smashing Pumpkins leader, Billy Corgan. The pair formed Static-X upon relocating to L.A. in 1994, enlisting guitarist Koichi Fukuda and bassist Tony Campos, and gradually forging the industrial grooves of 1999’s Wisconsin Death Trip. On subsequent LPs Shadow Zone (2003) and Start a War (2005), Static embraced a more melodic style picked up from Korn's Jonathan Davis after collaborating on the soundtrack for 2002’s Queen of the Damned. Following Static's death in 2014, the band's original members reunited for Project Regeneration, Vol. 1 (2020), repurposing vocals from old demos and later hitting the road with masked frontman Xer0.
