Minor Threat Essentials

Minor Threat were at the centre of the Washington D.C. hardcore scene in the '80s. The politically minded group originated the idea of "straight edge", which rejected the usual trappings of rock 'n' roll (drugs, drinking, casual sex) and gained a life of its own as a punk subculture that far outlasted the lifetime of the band itself. Singer Ian MacKaye (later of Fugazi) founded Dischord Records to release his music and that of his hometown cohorts, the label became enormously influential in the punk and DIY world.
