As rock splintered into myriad subgenres in the mid-'70s, from high-concept prog to low-rent punk, Laurent Voulzy reinstilled the value of '60s pop pleasures. His knowingly nostalgic, punningly titled 1977 signature tune “Rockollection” even included quotes of “A Hard Day's Night” and “I Get Around”, among other golden oldies. Voulzy's pursuit of pop perfection has emphasised singles over albums, but his masterful, McCartney-esque melodicism has proven adaptable to the production conventions of any era, and in the 21st century this seasoned songwriter has only become more prolific.
