Starting out as a lo-fi project of Luke Temple—who recorded Here We Go Magic's 2009 debut at home with a handful of instruments and a 4-track recorder—the Brooklyn band has created some of indie music's most delicate psych-pop gems. In a stream-of-conscious exploration of existentialism, Temple's featherweight falsetto casually drifts through folky acoustic guitar and aqueous layers of loops and synths. Throw in Krautrock's motorik rhythms, a touch of Brian Eno's soft art rock and a sprinkle of The Shins' airy pop, and you have a gentle, hypnotic swirl that's impossible to resist.
