Cowboy Junkies Essentials

The Cowboy Junkies are a family affair: guitarist Michael, drummer Peter, and singer Margot Timmins started out in 1986 with the controversially titled Whites Off Earth Now!!, a collection of blues covers recorded in the family garage. Then came The Trinity Session, made in a church with a single microphone on a shoestring budget. Margot's angelic whisper shone on originals penned by Michael and covers of classics by Patsy Cline, Hank Williams and, most notably, Lou Reed. It went on to sell a whopping 1,500,000 copies, making the group an international sensation. Although attention waned as they went for a more polished sound with The Caution Horses, the band remained highly regarded in Canada. Almost 30 years into their career, they decided to shake things up with The Nomad Series, four very different albums recorded in a very short span of time.
