Wayne Smith Essentials

Dancehall DJ Wayne Smith had already made a couple of albums with production king Lloyd "Prince Jammy" James before they dropped “Under Me Sleng Teng”, their landmark 1985 single. Riding the now-legendary pulsating Casio-driven riddim—the first to be computerised—it announced reggae's digital era and was an instant success, spawning countless new versions. Smith continued to record but this single, and the accompanying album released the following year, was his creative high point. He died of a heart attack in 2014.
