Denmark's Anders Trentemøller started by crafting sharp-angled techno at the height of the minimal boom. But before long he was applying his talent for affecting melodies and sumptuous textures to all manner of styles, drawing variously from lush downtempo, gravelly post-punk, '50s rock 'n' roll and show-stopping torch songs. With its minor keys and shadowy atmospheres, his music has all the velvet-curtained mystery of a David Lynch film, so it's not surprising that his songs have lent a touch of noir to a number of motion pictures.
