Ramsey Lewis made his name as a soul-jazz piano pounder in the late ‘50s, but as he started pursuing a more fusion-flavoured route in the ‘70s, his music took on a funkier, more low-end sense of groove. Tunes like the Afropop-inflected "Uhuru", the wah-wah-laden "Solar Wind" and the synth-boosted workout "Tambura" all demonstrate Lewis' penchant for getting on the good foot.
