José Carreras Essentials

The Spanish tenor brought together his two colleagues, Domingo and Pavarotti, to form The Three Tenors for the FIFA World Cup in 1990. He was the lightest voiced of the three and, before his career was blighted by illness, was prized for the ease and beauty of his voice. He was also a touching stage actor. Among his finest recorded roles are his Rodolfo opposite Ricciarelli's Mimì in La bohème, Cavaradossi in Tosca and Gabriele Adorno in Simon Boccanegra (under Abbado). But a deeper look at his career is filled with great surprises, including his role of Tony in Bernstein's own recording of West Side Story.
