Galaxie 500 Essentials

Galaxie 500 Essentials

One of the best guitar bands of the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, Galaxie 500 countered an indie scene that often emphasised noise and aggression. The three albums that the trio released launched a quiet revolution that embraced the slow burn of The Velvet Underground and the jangle of the L.A.-based Paisley Underground, all capped off with the singular yearning tone of frontman Dean Wareham. After splitting, Wareham went on to form the more traditional-sounding Luna, while rhythm section Damon Krukowski and Naomi Yang explored the worlds of folk and modern psychedelia.
