Dick Dale Essentials

Dick Dale Essentials

The vision and reach of surf music that Dick Dale pioneered—turbo guitar-picking, Middle Eastern tunings, pounding tribal rhythms—transcends its beachy provenance and its era of origin. "Misirlou", his signature number from the ‘60s, set the manic tone for both Pulp Fiction and a danceable Black Eyed Peas song; his unconventional energy shows up in takes on a famous Israeli folk song (“Hava Nagila”) and music by French composer Saint-Saens (“Space Mountain”, commissioned by Disney for the eponymous attraction). Hendrix was an early admirer, and Dale paid tribute following Hendrix’s death with his space-shot cover of "Third Stone from the Sun".
