Legendary hardcore underground hip-hop collective Assassin rose out of Paris's 18th arrondissement to become one of the most influential forces in French hip-hop. Founded in the ‘80s by MCs Rockin' Squat, Solo and Doctor L along with DJ Clyde, the group developed a hard-boiled hustle and socially aware style marked by its anti-commercialism and political activism via lightning-fast rhymes and block-rocking beats. Assassin deeply influenced a generation of stars who would put France on the global hip-hop map, and have been compared to Public Enemy and KRS One for their societal impact.
