Abbey Lincoln Essentials

Abbey Lincoln Essentials

Active from the mid-'50s until her death in 2010, American jazz singer Abbey Lincoln was a versatile musician whose impressive repertoire included sensual jazz standards (“Afro Blue”), swingin' pop covers (“Mr. Tambourine Man”), and avant-garde spoken word (“The River”). Dealing with subjects both political and romantic, Lincoln had a unique and learned approach and a thrillingly deep and rich alto voice. She especially shone when performing the music of her idol Billie Holiday (“No More”) and collaborating with husband and jazz drumming icon Max Roach (“Up Jumped Spring”).
