About Marcus Butler

With a legion of over four-million subscribers, Marcus Butler was one of the U.K.'s most famous YouTube acts, his channel comfortably in the Top 30, just behind the likes of Coldplay and motoring show Top Gear. He frequently collaborated with other YouTube stars, such as fashion and beauty vlogger Zoella and prankster Caspar Lee, and took part in a YouTube boy band that released a charity video for Comic Relief. Having amassed such a large following, he took the next logical step of releasing his autobiography. Hello Life!, published in 2015, was not only an autobiography but also a self-help book, and was a Sunday Times and New York Times bestseller. It covered a diverse range of subject matter close to Butler's heart, from parental divorce to catastrophic hair days. Marcus Butler's assault on the music world, the YouTube boy band notwithstanding, was launched in earnest in January 2016 with his single "I'm Famous," featuring singer/songwriter and fellow Brighton resident Conor Maynard. Butler had actually released two tracks prior to this effort; a 2013 satirical rap single, which celebrated his hitting the one-million-subscriber mark and was titled "I'm a Rapper," and 2016's "New Year Song," another rap track made up of his Twitter followers' New Year's resolutions. "I'm Famous" offered a satirical look at the extravagance of the rap star lifestyle and Butler's own rise to fame. Released on his own label, it entered the U.K. charts at number 85. ~ Simon Spreyer
