Jacques Gautier

About Jacques Gautier

Attached to the English court from 1625, Gautier was reported to have fled France for his involvement in a murder. In the event of the Restoration his position was given to some one else but his name still appears in registries as late as 1640. He was praised for his fluid lute playing and accurate technique. Performances were given by Gautier in Madrid and the Netherlands having lost favor at the English court. (He was imprisoned and tortured in the Tower of London for his criticism of persons of the court. By 1630 he was restored to favor.) ~ Keith Johnson
