TV on the Radio: Influences

TV on the Radio: Influences

With their 2004 breakthrough album Desperate Youth, Bloodthirsty Babes, TV on the Radio quickly became one of the most critically acclaimed indie rock bands of the 21st century. Much of their success was due to a unique sound that drew on a diverse range of influences—from '70s art-rock (David Bowie, Brian Eno) and post-punk (Joy Division, Wire) to '80s indie rock (Sonic Youth, Pixies) and classic soul (Sam Cooke, Al Green). This idiosyncratic blend of inspirations—mixing guitar noise with deep grooves— has helped to elevate TVOTR to the top flight of modern indie bands.
