Buffalo Springfield Essentials

The three pioneering singer/songwriters of Buffalo Springfield—Neil Young, Stephen Stills and Richie Furay—made the band one of the most talented folk-rock acts of the '60s. Even though their first run lasted barely three years, they produced a string of gems: Stills' “For What It's Worth” is a countrified anthem that channels the era's social unrest into moody harmonies and echoing guitars, while in contrast, Young's “Expecting to Fly” veers toward psych pop veiled in ghostly strings. The touching pedal-steel-laced “Kind Woman” is Furay's gorgeous exercise in pastoral soul.
