About Solar Fields

Solar Fields is the recording alias of Magnus Birgersson, an electronic musician, composer, and sound designer from Gothenburg, Sweden. Birgersson's music spans the genres of ambient, IDM, downtempo, and psy-trance, and he has also composed numerous video game soundtracks. Birgersson signed to French trance/ambient label Ultimae Records in 2001 and released ambient album Reflective Frequencies, his full-length debut, that year. The more upbeat Blue Moon Station followed in 2003. Two Solar Fields albums, Extended and Leaving Home, appeared in 2005. EarthShine, Solar Fields' first complete foray into uptempo psy-trance, arrived in 2007. The year 2009 brought two of Solar Fields' most well-received works: solo full-length Movements and Birgersson's acclaimed soundtrack to action video game Mirror's Edge. Remix album Altered: Second Movements appeared in 2010, as did Origin #01, the first album in a series of unreleased archival compositions. Full-length studio album Until We Meet the Sky, one of Solar Fields' more challenging releases, appeared at the end of 2011. Random Friday, Solar Fields' return to progressive trance, arrived in 2012. Origin #02 was released in 2013. In 2014 Birgersson started his own label, Droneform Records, and released a series of digital compilations featuring updated, remixed, and remastered tracks from his catalog; the albums were titled Red, Green, and Blue. ~ Paul Simpson
