About Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment
The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment is a period-instrument chamber group that has pursued an innovative democratic structure with no permanent conductor. The group has worked with a great variety of collaborators, including the Royal Opera and Glyndebourne Festival Opera. The group's members follow democratic procedures in making performance decisions. There is no permanent conductor, but the orchestra has attracted major conducting talents. Simon Rattle and Frans Brüggen are principal guest conductors. The orchestra focuses on the music of the 17th and 18th centuries. The group offers an informal concert series called "The Night Shift." The orchestra's first album featured C.P.E. Bach's The Resurrection and Ascension of Jesus. In 2021, the orchestra backed András Schiff in the piano concertos of Brahms on ECM.
