About Magic Slim & The Teardrops

Born Morris Holt in Mississippi, Magic Slim is a blues guitarist and singer. Slim moved to Chicago in the mid 1950s and played bass in Magic Sam’s band. Slim returned to Mississippi, only to make it back to Chicago in 1965 to play lead guitar in his own band, the Teardrops. Slim & the Teardrops played regularly in Chicago’s blues clubs through the ‘60s and ‘70s, releasing singles (including “Scufflin’”), before cutting the full-length BORN UNDER A BAD SIGN in 1977. Subsequent releases include DOIN’ FINE (1980), GRAVEL ROAD (1990), and the live disc ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN (2005). The band has won numerous W.C. Handy awards for “Blues Band of the Year.”
