About Camilo Sesto

One of the best-selling Latin music artists of all time, Camilo Sesto recorded in his native Spanish, as well German, Japanese, English, Catalan, Italian, and Portuguese. ∙ During his nearly 50-year career, he was known as El Rey del Amor for his romantic ballads, including “Perdóname,” “Donde Estes, Con Quien Estes,” “Jamas,” and “Melina.” ∙ Sesto scored his first No. 1 hit in 1972 with “Algo de Mi,” produced by fellow singer-songwriter Juan Pardo. ∙ He wrote almost all the songs on his albums, in addition to writing and producing for José José, Miguel Bosé, and Angela Carrasco. ∙ In 1975, he financed and starred in the acclaimed Spanish-language adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar, the first Broadway-level show of its kind in Spain. ∙ After announcing his retirement in 1987, Sesto changed his mind, returning in 1991 with the No. 1 hit “Amor Mío ¿Qué Me Has Hecho?” ∙ He was inducted into the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2017.
