Wang Chung Essentials

The British New Wave act Wang Chung notched a few defining tracks of the ’80s. Vocalist Jack Hues and guitarist Nick Feldman formed Huang Chung with drummer Darren Costin in 1980; after some commercial struggles, including a 1982 release of the melancholic “Dance Hall Days”, they changed their name to Wang Chung in 1983. Their second album, Points On The Curve, included a re-recording of “Dance Hall Days” that became a hit; Costin left shortly thereafter, Hues and Feldman continuing as a duo. The 1986 album Mosaic included the jubilant “Everybody Have Fun Tonight”, which was a big hit in the U.S., reaching No. 2 on the Hot 100; “Let’s Go” and “Hypnotize Me” also hit the Top 40. After releasing The Warmer Side of Cool in 1989, the pair went on hiatus, later reuniting for live shows, an album and a collection of orchestral reworkings of their songs called Orchesography.
