Stone Sour Essentials

When Corey Taylor isn't unloading mosh-pit mayhem in Slipknot, the singer/songwriter is flashing his introspective side with Stone Sour. While their 2002 debut boasts plenty of alt-metal snarl, it's also peppered with dark, melodic ballads wrapped in acoustic guitars, piano and organ. Taylor, not unlike Alice in Chains' Layne Staley, is a fierce growler who's unafraid to stare down the demons lurking inside him. On House of Gold & Bones, an ambitious, two-part concept album, Stone Sour expand their style to include big, brawny hooks and driving grooves rooted in '70s hard rock.
