Some aspects of precocious drill MC Loski’s high-velocity rise will appear familiar: the viral breakthrough single (2016’s buoyant, brutal “Hazards”), the postcode-specific posse (Kennington’s Harlem Spartans), the customary co-sign from Drake (Drizzy credited the 2018 tape Call Me Loose as a key inspiration for Scorpion). But this South Londoner’s take on road music has a vibrancy and puckishness all its own. From crooning through an afroswing taunt to his rivals (“Forrest Gump”) to laying waste to Charlie Sloth’s Fire In The Booth studio, Loski brings barbed-wire bars wrapped in tuneful velvet.
