Jacob Kirkegaard Essentials

Sound artist and musical theorist Jacob Kirkegaard has focused his work on the environment. In particular, the German-born artist attempts to find the sounds hidden within certain parts of the world—like Arctic glaciers and empty rooms within the Chernobyl radiation zone—or the tones generated by the Aurora Borealis or the inner ear. Much of Kirkegaard's work is connected with a visual element, as part of his art installations, but on their own, the natural sounds and field recordings can be hypnotising and exhilarating.
