Death From Above 1979: Influences

The Death From Above 1979 sound is a violent collision of oppositional forces: monstrous groove and insidious melody. Certainly, the duo's sense of unruly rhythm evokes post-punk pioneers like Public Image Ltd., but singer/drummer Sebastien Grainger can also lock into the sort of in-the-pocket funk practised by The Band's Levon Helm. And when you strip away all the noise, you're left with a pop sensibility that can be traced back to McCartney.
